Project Overview

S. T. Hudson Engineers, Inc. was selected by Buckeye Partners, L.P. to design new piping systems that would allow a change in service for existing tanks at their Port Reading, NJ facility. This project was part of a larger effort by Buckeye to convert an old refinery they purchased into a finished product terminal. We were tasked to design the necessary manifold connections, piping, tie-ins, and other required components to safely store and transport the products Buckeye desired to export from this facility.

Project Scope

To transform the facility’s existing tanks into vessels that can store finished products to be exported to customers, S. T. Hudson was tasked with completing a large scope of work.

  • Design two new manifolds that tie into multiple lines
  • Design tie-in of new piping into existing facility piping and supports
  • Design replacement of circulation headers and tank fill / suction lines to accommodate new piping design
  • Design the addition of foam chambers and foam piping into repurposed tanks
  • Design incorporation of butane injection jet nozzles into repurposed tanks
  • Review pump flow rates for products to be stored in repurposed tanks
  • Survey of lines running from tanks to the loading dock for cleaning
